Raised in a Montreal slum, Quebecois Claire Racine fled her impoverished past by becoming a doctor, never looking back when she left behind her mother, numerous siblings and, finally, her country. Haunted by the sense of having abandoned her past and her responsibilities, she is surprised by a sudden chance to redeem herself in her own eyes. But this means deceiving her spouse, the government, and finally herself as she becomes more and more deeply involved with a renegade terrorist cell of the Quebec Liberation Front. Along with her surgeon husband, Paul Racine, she finds out in the hardest way possible that transplanting a heart is simplicity itself compared to transplanting a soul.

About the Author
Born and raised in Virginia, J. Clayton Rogers lives in Richmond, where he indulges in his favorite pastimes: reading, writing and hiking. Although he is the proud and loony owner of 10,000 books, his most prized possession remains his Richmond City Library card. His inglorious past has included jobs ranging from kitchen help (at Disney World) to golf tour lackey to convenience store clerk to insurance claims adjuster to homeowners property/casualty analyst. Mr. Rogers has made the rather bogus assertion that writing would be a snap if it weren't for all the cats leaping onto his notepad and keyboard.
